Tell us a bit about you! Who are you, and what do you do?
Hi, I’m Chrissy. I am an island girl from Jamaica living on a farm in Oregon with my husband and two boys. I’m a digital strategist, and I work with entrepreneurs to help decrease their digital distress and overwhelm when it comes to being in the online space.
Where were you before DSS?
I was struggling. I had been doing web design for while but something just wasn’t jiving for me.
It seemed that no matter what I did or how hard I worked, I just couldn’t break through to the next level in terms of raising my prices.
I knew I wanted to be in the online industry in some capacity but I wasn’t sure where to take that. I was no longer happy doing web design.
Why did you sign up for DSS?
Marie introduced me to the idea of Digital Strategy via Digital Strategy School :). She showed me what it takes for a designer to really set the bar high and add value to their clients. I was really drawn to the more strategic side of things rather than the design side.
What was it like to be part of DSS?
I really enjoyed the interaction and mentorship in the Facebook group. When I pay to be a part of a program, everyone is vested and you can get realtime feedback on issues, questions or just general struggles within your business. I also enjoyed the monthly Q&A Google Hangouts with Marie – those were invaluable.
What would you say if you were recommending DSS to a friend?
Marie is the bombdiggity.com! If you are a creative freelancer struggling to break through to that next level where you can raise your prices and add value to your clients bottom line, your search has ended.
The mentorship I received through Marie in DSS has been invaluable, and has been a turning point in my entrepreneurial journey.
I cannot recommend her enough.
What were some of your breakthroughs?
1. Even though I know design, even though I’ve taken the time to study design and learn code, it’s just not what I want to do anymore and it’s not the best use of my time and energy.
2. I realized I’ve always been a people person and I really enjoy helping business owners with the brainstorming, planning and implementation phase of their online business. This is my strength, and you helped me to recognize that.
What are your takeaways from working with Marie?
She is amazing. She is not only inspiring but is a true advocate for both the designer and the client. She listens, she cares and most importantly she give actionable ideas and steps I can take to make progress in my goals and my business.
She truly showed me what it takes to be a 5 star designer/developer and strategist. She set the bar so high and made me realize that as a designer I was crawling underneath the bar – but as a strategist I could catapult over the bar. She made me realize this was possible, that it’s a need in the market place and it’s a strength I can run with.
What are the people in DSS like (including instructor + fellow students)?
Amazing. There are some wonderful and talented designers and developers that I’ve had the pleasure of meeting in DSS – and it is because of these individuals that I made a design to focus more on digital strategy and less on design. When you surround yourself with talented individuals, you quickly realize your strengths and weaknesses.
What was your favorite part of the DSS experience?
1:1 time with Marie – hands down!
How have you applied the strategies you’ve learned?
I’m going in a new direction – from designer to Strategist and you’ve given me some amazing and actionable starting points to jump start this journey! I’ll be tweaking the copy on my work with me page and under taking the huge project of coming up with a pricing guide for clients who are trying to figure out what to expect at different price points with different designers.
How do you feel right now?
Like a Strategic Diva Badass 🙂
What’s next for you?
I’m currently working on developing a DIY website course for business owners and developing my strategic coaching sessions.
